It had been awhile since Darin had been around civilization. His most recent return to his hometown of Georgetown had left him with more questions than answers. After he had left Darin ventured deep into the woods of the Rocky Mountains. Time was never something on his mind as he traveled alone in the isolated woods. The lack of civilization helped him keep his thoughts clear. He had wandered through the woods for probably months just living off of the land and continuing to train his powers. It was much more difficult without the guidance of his mentor however. Darin would watch as the cold fall weather would change to a harsh mountain winter full of snow, and then eventually he would see it warm back up as the plant life would begin to bloom once again for the year. It was through his journeys that he came to the top of a mountain, and looking into the distance he could see a large city. He may not have had much memory of his childhood and who he was, but he did however know what he was looking at. Denver, Colorado. He gazed out at the city and wondered what its towering skyscrapers and vast streets held within. It had been years since he actually been within society, and yet even then he had never been a part of a society so massive as the one before him. Taking a deep breath of the fresh air he began walking towards Denver.
Night had fallen by the time he had finally reached the city. He walked the streets having trouble not looking around with a bit of awe. This was an unfamiliar setting for him. He had no idea where he was going, nor did he have any plans. To him the wilderness was much easier, as the city didn't make a lot of sense to him. After some time Darin would find himself walking down a sidewalk looking up at the towering skyscrapers. He had now found himself in downtown Denver. Looking around at the people was even more unusual than the city itself. There were all types of different people, some of which looked to be capable of power just like himself. He had also noticed how he hadn't really received any odd glares for the way he was dressed. After all, from what he could see, there was far stranger people than himself.
"Hey! Friend, come here!"
Darin looked over in the direction he could hear a voice. There was man with a bald head, baggy jeans, and tank top waving him over. He stopped and stared for a moment as the man continued to wave him over still calling out to him. Eventually Darin turned and walked towards the man.
"Hey, come here, my friend is hurt down this way, he needs help." The man pointed down an alleyway as he began walking and beckoning Darin to follow. Darin being the helpful type simply nodded and followed the man down the alleyway. After a short walk, yet a good distance from the main road, the man stopped and turned around. A few other men came running out, and looking behind him he could see a couple blocking the way back to the main road. Darin looked back to the man who led him here. He watched as the men then drew guns and smiled menacingly at him.
"Look at this fool. Actually dumb enough to follow me down here. Probably one of those power freaks. Give us all your cash and we might let you go without hurting you too bad. In fact, we'll take that outfit too." The other men laughed and jeered the one man on. Darin took a deep breath out of disappointment. He had hoped people were better than this, but times hadn't changed. Darin raised his arms up slowly to his sides to show he was non threatening.
"I'm not looking for any trouble. If you don't mind, I'd appreciate if you step aside." Darin watched as the men just laughed at his request. They then raised their guns and pointed them directly at Darin. "Yo, I ain't gonna ask you twice!" The man then yelled at Darin.
Darin then had no choice but to act. With another deep breath he focused on his inner self to draw out his power. Beneath his hood the tattooed lines on his face began to glow a bright blue along with his eyes. Within seconds the men would see a thick fog rise that would completely obscure their vision. He could hear the men shouting in panic and confusion as they could no longer even see their hands in front of their own faces through the fog. Darin looked around at the men as they stumbled around in their panic, yet to him they stumbled through nothing at all for the fog was only an illusion in their mind. Holding the illusion as it was, Darin turned and walked back towards the street. As he turned out of the alley back onto the main street he released his hold over their minds.
